REGARDING FIGURE OF SPEECH

A figure of speech is actually a rhetorical unit that achieves a special effect by using words in distinctive ways. Even though there are numerous figures of speech, in this article we'll concentrate on just 20 of the most common figures. In all probability you'll remember a number of these terms out of your English classes. Figurative dialect is often associated with literature--and with poetry in particular. But the fact is, whether we're alert to it or not, all of us use numbers of conversation every day in our own composing and discussions. In common consumption, the opposite of the literal appearance: a word or phrase meaning something more or a thing other than it seems to say. Types of Speech: --

1) Metaphor: a comparison between two apparently unrelated things. Metaphor could be stated or perhaps implied. Case: " Your eyes and the valley are memories. as well as Your eyes fire plus the valley a bowl. 2) Simile: a direct comparison between two seemingly unrelated items using " like” or " because. ” Example: " Sorrow like a ceaseless rain / beats upon my cardiovascular system. ” 3) Personification: granting human characteristics to a thing that is not really human. Model: " Vine leaves engage my windowpane, / Dew-drops sing for the garden stones” 4) Apostrophe: addressing an inanimate object as if that were living. Example: " Oh overshoes, / on the web / remember me, as well as pushing you up and down / in the winter snow? ” 5) Hyperbole: planned exaggeration intended for effect, generally for emphasis. Example: " Do I care / Disrupt the world? 6) Paradox: a statement that appears self-contradictory, but applies. Or, two...
